ico2How to obtain British Citizenship through naturalisation

The rules on naturalisation vary depending on whether or not you are married to or the civil partner of a British citizen.

ico9Community: Pregnant tier 4 foreign student

Question: I'm a pregnant foreign student under tier 4. Will my baby be a British citizen if I give birth in the UK? Or will I be forced to go home to have the baby?

Answer: The child’s immigration status will hinge on that of its parents. Unless one of you has British citizenship or indefinite leave to remain in the UK, the child will not qualify as a UK citizen when he or she is born. Provided you comply with the terms of your visa, however, you will not be forced to return home to give birth. Visit the following pages to learn more: (1) Student Visas; (2) Citizenship.
